Kamloops Mounties have arrested suspects from BC and Alberta as a result of a flight from police investigation on Tuesday night.
At around 11:30 on the night of April1st, Kamloops RCMP were notified that a black four-door sedan reported as stolen, was entering the area. It was suspected to have been involved in offences in both Alberta and British Columbia, and had allegedly fled from officers of another nearby detachment.
“The quick planning and response of Kamloops RCMP frontline officers led to a successful spike belt deployment on Hwy 1, but the vehicle continued on and was abandoned east of the city,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment. “Soon after, police located a suspect lying in a ditch nearby and arrested him. The North Okanagan RCMP Dog Service Unit found a second person hiding in the grass further along, and he too was taken into custody.”
The investigation involves assistance from the General Investigations Support Team, Crime Reduction Unit, and frontline officers.
“The exceptional work of local officers in partnership with neighbouring police detachments resulted in the successful arrest of two people,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge. “The investigation involves multiple jurisdictions and offences, and we anticipate making charge recommendations as part of the assessment and approval process.”
Both men were arrested, but have since been released with conditions and court dates.
