A Kamloops man is facing multiple charges after RCMP say a visit to the local detachment on an unrelated matter ultimately led officers to a stolen vehicle and prohibited device seizure.
According to Kamloops RCMP, the incident began shortly after 4 p.m. on May 15 when a man attended the detachment for what police described as a non-criminal matter.
After leaving the building, officers allegedly observed the man entering a white Honda CR-V that had a regulatory infraction, prompting police to initiate a traffic stop.
Mounties say the driver instead fled through a residential neighbourhood, evading police. Officers did not pursue the vehicle further due to concerns for public safety.
Two days later, on May 17, the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located the Honda CR-V near the suspect’s residence. Police later determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in Kamloops on May 2.
Investigators say further evidence linked the suspect to the stolen vehicle, leading to his arrest.
During the arrest and a subsequent search of the vehicle, police say officers seized keys to the stolen SUV, a suppressor and other items.
Sean Kevin Goudie has now been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device knowing it is unauthorized, and mischief related to the lawful use of property.
Goudie remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26.
