In a time of need, the Kamloops sports community has been there for Scott Sinclair and his family.
Sinclair has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer which has also metastasized to his liver and lymph nodes.
Active in sports his whole life either as a player or coach, the Sinclair family is now seeing that time invested pay off in full given the life changing circumstances.
“It’s honestly overwhelming,” said an emotional Sinclair when Radio NL Sports reached out this week.
“From the Kamloops Minor Hockey family to the Kamloops United Soccer family to our personal family and friends. Even people I’ve never even met have reached out to help me and my family through this.”

There’s also been support from other groups in the city from soccer and dance community.
A GoFundMe campaign https://www.gofundme.com/f/standing-with-scott-sinclair-battling-stage-4-cancer was launched on the weekend and already the total has surpassed $80,000. Scott isn’t working right now, and soon his wife Catrina will be off work to be there for her husband.
“I try not to break down and cry because the support has been so overwhelming during this time of need for my family,” continued Sinclair who is putting up a brave fight.
“Mentally I’m in a good place right now. At the start, it was a little rocky but…. (pauses) I’m doing a lot better now.”
He admits his whole team has stayed strong including his wife, Catrina, and their kids Zoey (12) and Nixon (10). Along with his parents, Earl and Sandi, sister Nicole, brother-in-law Brandon, nephew Jaxon and niece Peyton.
“I first noticed something different with my stool… and then later with some blood. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but later I decided to go to the doctor. From there they got me into an urgent colonoscopy (two months later) and it (cancer) all seemed to take off.”
He wants to be a cautionary tale to help men his age take action.
“I want people to go get checked out when you think there’s a sign. Advocate for yourself,” a determined Sinclair stated.
“Do it for yourself, but do it for your family.”

The Sinclair family also passed a message along on the GoFundMe page:
“To everyone who has reached out with messages of support, thank you from the very bottom of our hearts. We are completely overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends, family, sports communities, colleagues and strangers. The donations will forever change the course of our lives moving forward.
When I first received my diagnosis we had no idea of what was to come, and we still don’t in all honesty. We knew we had incredible people in our lives, but the sheer wave of generosity and love we have experienced over the last few days has completely overwhelmed us. It is hard to find the words to express what this support truly means to our family, but please know that every single donation, message, and prayer has brought us immense comfort and hope.
Because of your incredible kindness, the financial burden that often accompanies a medical crisis has been lifted. This support is quite literally changing the course of my treatment. Instead of worrying about the costs of day to day living, we can focus 100% of our energy on this battle ahead.
Due to your generosity, Catrina will now be able to be right by my side whenever and wherever she is needed. She won’t have to balance the impossible weight of work, schedules and caregiving logistics during critical moments. Knowing that she can be there when I need her, advocate with me, and help navigate this path with me is a relief we cannot fully put into words. It will ultimately support our two beautiful and brave children, Zoey and Nixon, as they have to also navigate this uncertain time.
We are stepping into this next chapter feeling loved, supported, and lifted up by an incredible community. You have given us more than just financial relief. You have given us peace of mind and the strength to fight.
Thank you for standing with us. We will keep you updated as much ad we can as we take these next steps forward.”
