One person was taken to hospital after a crash involving a pick-up truck and a Chase RCMP police vehicle in downtown Kamloops this morning.
Kamloops Mounties say the police vehicle was heading east on Columbia Street near 10th Avenue around 8 a.m. when a southbound red Ford F150 pick-up drove into its path.
Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says the driver of the pickup allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the corner of Columbia Street near 10th Avenue.
“The police officer was unable to avoid the collision and struck the pick-up near the passenger door and box, causing it to spin around and strike a parked car, before coming to rest in the northbound lane,” Shoihet said.
She says the driver of the pick-up, a 57-year-old Kamloops resident was taken to Royal Inland Hospital as a precaution, while the police officer was not physically injured.
“While the cause of the collision of remains under investigation, impairment by alcohol has been ruled out,” Shoihet added.
Mounties say if you witnessed the crash or have dash-cam or other video of it, to reach out to Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2023-46372.
