The Kamloops Blazers earned a point in their final game of the regular season, going down on the road to the Prince George Cougars 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night.
It wasn’t the way the Blazers hoped to close out the season, though it was a solid rebound after a disappointing turnout the night before.
The Blazers would play a road-game in the first, not allowing Prince George any breathing room, putting the two sides into the dressing room after the scoreless first.
All the scoring in regulation would come in the second frame.
The Cougars would open things up early, with Hudson Thornton getting his 23rd of the season to make it 1-0.
However, the Blazers would respond about five minutes later, with Ashton Ferster getting his 11th on the season to make it a 1-1 game.
Prince George would make it 2-1 with about 7-minutes to go in the 2nd before Emmitt Finnie would equalize to knot things up at 2-2 heading into the dressing room.
But like the first period, the two sides would be unable to find the back of the net – sending things into overtime.
Overtime failing to solve anything, the Cougars would seal away the win with a pair of goals on the Blazers rookie starter Jesse Sanche.
Sanche faced 17 shots Saturday night compared to Prince George’s Tyler Brennan, who had to fight-off 43 shots for the victory.
Prince George now moves on to face Tri-City in the first round of the playoffs, while the Blazers prepare to take on the Vancouver Giants.
Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs for Kamloops gets underway on Friday, March 31, at the Sandman Centre.
