The Mayor of Kamloops and three city councillors will serve on a special select committee that will determine the makeup of standing committees in the city.
Reid Hamer-Jackson will be joined by Councillors Nancy Bepple, Margot Middleton, and Mike O’Reilly who will serve as chair.
“Over the past few days, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and discuss and text and email on council and have had great discussions as to how we want to shape this,” Councillor Kelly Hall, who was tasked with picking the committee members said Tuesday.
Hall, who is Deputy Mayor for the month of March, says its important for the rest of council to be involved in the process.
“I’ve also had conversations with everybody else and around the horseshoe with regards to if you’ve got ideas, if you’ve got suggestions and if you want to participate in putting those forward to the individuals on the committee, I ask that you please do so, “Hall added.
Kamloops council voted on March 21 to pause all standing committees pending a review of the terms of reference, after Hamer-Jackson removed several councillors as chairs and named members of the community – some with personal connections to him – as their replacements.
No word yet when the select committee will be done with its work, but Hall says meetings are set to take place in the near future.
“I also took the opportunity to talk to [Deputy Corporate Officer] Amanda Passmore to help us circulate dates, because I know how important timing is on this,” Hall said.
“She has fulfilled that by giving us dates in April and May. So we’ll be able to dates for meetings to start right away.”
