A major cultural event is set to hit the Kamloops North Shore this weekend.
Anywhere from 700 to 1,000 people are expected to turn out for the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan festival on Saturday.
This will include a parade, which the Kamloops Sikh Cultural Society’s Pav Gill says shouldn’t have too much of an impact on traffic on Saturday afternoon.
“Mostly the interruption is going to happen a little bit when we’re crossing Tranquille Road to go on to Nicolani, and then back over from Ollek to Tranquille.”
Gill says the event is expected to draw Sikh’s from various parts of the province.
“The Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan parade symbolizes the creation of Khalsa within the Sikh religion, which was created by our 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.”
On top of the Parade, there will be an earlier flag raising ceremony at the Gurudwara on Cambridge Crescent — on top of free food being provided by members of the Sikh community in Kamloops.
The flag ceremony will get underway at 10am, with the parade expected to start around noon, and conclude around 4pm.
