Work is said to be progressing on putting a cap on the northern end of the Ross Moore Lake fire south of Kamloops.
Local officials close to the fire say Trans Mountain crews, along side the BC Wildfire Service, are working to create fire guards in the Edith Lake, Hull Lake and Long Lake areas to try to prevent the fire from making it into the grasslands.
So far the fire has been mostly confined to the forested areas.
That work was bolstered by rain and cooler temperatures, keeping the fire activity lower on Tuesday to allow crews to gain access to those areas to ramp up their work.
“There is one unit crew, two initial attack crews, heavy equipment, structure protection personnel and aerial resources assigned to this incident,” according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The latest stats show the Ross Moore Lake fire still sits at 26-square kilometers in size, with the northern tip of it about 10-kilometers away from Kamloops city limits.
334 properties are still under an evacuation order.
Close to 200 other properties in the TNRD, as well as within Kamloops city limits in the Knutsford area, remain under evacuation alerts.
We are expecting a further update this Wednesday from the newly-formed BC Wildfire Incident Command for this fire, as well as the fires on either side of Adams Lake northeast of Kamloops.
