Plans to add more density to the growing Tranquille Corridor in North Kamloops took another step forward Tuesday.
Kamloops City Councillors have approved the development of a new six-storey, 98-unit rental apartment building at 156 Tranquille Road, the site of the former Red Sea Auto and Sales. The used car lot went up in flames in February of last year.
Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Director, Marvin Kwiatkowski, says there will be 45 studio suites, 33 one-bedroom suites, and 20 two-bedroom suites.
“Every unit has a balcony which is nice so they can get fresh air when they come out of their unit, and the nice views,” Kwiatkowski said during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
“That’s going to be a really great addition to that area. I’m really excited to see this go forward.”
He says there will also be 38 square metres of commercial space on the ground floor with a gym and common patio for residents on the top floor overlooking Tranquille Road.
“It is a rental project, so there is demand for the rentals so that is another positive and the ground floor commercial,” Kwiatkowski added. “That is what we like to see is mixed-use especially in key areas, and that is one of them.”
“It is a significant step up in redevelopment of that neighbourhood so very exciting to see this.”
