The Columbia-Shuswap Regional District has issued an evacuation order for 14 properties in the Sorrento area after a flare up on the Bush Creek East fire Tuesday night.
The properties affected by this new evacuation order as as follows:
- 591 – 622 Elson Road,
- 998, 1060, 1063 Fredrickson Road,
- Those parts of the following properties that lie south of the CP Railway:
- 3013, 3017 Des Fosses Road,
- 643 Elson Road,
- 1138, 1214 Fredrickson Road
CSRD Spokesperson Tracy Hughes says residents in all of the properties were tactically evacuated last night.
“Sorrento residents may have noticed the wildfire was active to the west of the tracks overnight,” Hughes said. “We are happy to report that CSRD and BC Wildfire fought much of the night and there was no structure loss.”
“We ask that everyone stay away from the area to allow firefighters and equipment they need to easily access the area.”
Speaking during the CSRD briefing, EOC Director, Derek Sutherland, said the area in question was south of the tracks on the very west end of Sorrento.
“It was a very active scene and fire fighters managed to save a structure,” Sutherland said. “The threat at the moment is low but the fire is active and was active last night.”
As of publishing, there was no change to any other evacuation orders or alerts that were put in place due to the Bush Creek East Fire.
“Residents in Sorrento and Blind Bay may certainly be concerned, however, firefighters feel comfortable with the current status and the weather is in their favour today,” Hughes added.
