The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has rescinded evacuation alerts for hundreds of properties south of Kamloops that were put in place due to the Ross Moore Lake fire.
The TNRD says people in 354 properties pictured here spread across Electoral Areas “J” (Copper Desert Country), “L” (Grasslands), and “M” (Beautiful Nicola Valley-North) have been given the all-clear.
“Should conditions change, an Evacuation Alert and/or Evacuation Order will be reinstated as necessary,” the TNRD said.
The last of the evacuation orders issued due to the Ross Moore Lake fire were lifted earlier this month. At one point, as many as 344 properties south of Kamloops were on evacuation order due to the 114-square kilometre lighting-caused fire.
“Although we are entering the fall season, nearby communities can still expect to see smoke within the perimeter over the coming weeks,” the BC Wildfire Service said, in an update Tuesday. “This is common with large wildfires and will continue until significant rainfall or snowfall.”
“If you see smoke coming from well within a fire’s perimeter and the area is surrounded by black, burned material, this is typically not a concern. However, smoke rising from green, unburned fuel or from outside a fire’s perimeter should be reported immediately.”
