The BC Wildfire Service says the Ross Moore Lake fire, south of Kamloops, is now being held at 114 square kilometres in size.
In an update Tuesday, the Wildfire Service says it means that the lightning-caused fire is not likely to spread beyond existing boundaries under the current and forecasted conditions.
“Since the wildfire was discovered on July 21, ground crews have worked towards containment with support from heavy equipment, airtankers and helicopters,” the Wildfire Service said, in an update.
“BC Wildfire Service crews and resources will remain on site to continue suppression efforts on this wildfire.”
The move comes hours after the TNRD rescinded all evacuation alerts that were in effect south of Kamloops. That said, the Wildfire Service cautions that people may still see smoke from within the fire perimeter over the coming weeks.
“This is common with large wildfires,” the BCWS said. “However, smoke that rises from green, unburned fuel or from outside the fire’s perimeter should be reported immediately.”
An area restriction order in the vicinity of the Ross Moore Lake fire, which was enacted on Aug. 17, is scheduled to remain in place until noon on Friday, Sept. 15.
The area restriction is located in-between the Coquihalla Highway and Highway 5A, as pictured here.
