Kamloops RCMP are investigating a suspicious fire after an already burned-out SUV at Tru Market Auto on West Victoria Street was set on fire early Tuesday morning.
Mounties say they were called to the business – which is owned by Kamloops mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson – around 7:55 a.m. on Oct. 10. They say firefighters had already put out the fire by the time they got to the scene.
“The cause and the motive behind the fire are still under investigation, but police are treating it as arson,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.
“At this time, there is nothing to suggest it’s related to last year’s investigation, which remains unsolved.”
Evelyn says people with information or video of the fire should contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-36658.
