There is a shake up to the corporate structure at the City of Kamloops.
Speaking during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin announced that he has promoted Byron McCorkell, currently the Community and Protective Services Director, to Deputy CAO.
“As part of the new role, McCorkell will lead the organization’s intergovernmental relations activities, as well as priority projects like Build Kamloops,” the City said, in a statement Tuesday.
“[McCorkell] will retain directorship over the new Community and Culture Department – which includes Recreation, Culture, and Social and Community Development – and will assume responsibility for the Communications and Community Engagement Division.”
Trawin also announced that Barbara Berger, the City’s Recreation, Social Development, and Cultural Manager, will be retiring this Friday, Oct. 20.
“Manager Berger has her last day after a long, successful career at the city where she has provided great advice and great work to the city,” Trawin told City Council. “Her last day at her desk is this Friday.”
“We are in the process [of hiring] but not quite ready to announce, a Cultural Manager and a Recreation Manager, which will replace Manager, or Assistant Director for lack of a better word, Berger.”
Trawin also says a new Protective Services Department has been established, to take on some of the duties that McCorkell was previously responsible for. That department will encompass Kamloops Fire Rescue, the Community Services Division, Emergency Management, and RCMP Support Services.
It will be led by Ken Uzeloc, who will also continue on as Kamloops Fire Chief.
“There is no change to Civic Operations; Development, Engineering, and Sustainability; Corporate Services; or Human Resources and Safety,” the City statement added.
“All directors, including Deputy Chief Administrative Officer McCorkell, as well as RCMP Superintendent Jeff Pelley, and the City’s External Relations Division, will continue to report to Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin.”
