Ashton Ferster scored the only goal of the weekend for the Kamloops Blazers, who were beaten 7-1 by the Prince George Cougars Saturday night.
The loss to the B.C. Division leading Cougars extended the Blazers losing streak to nine games – one of which was in overtime – leaving them with a 1-8-2 record through 11 games this season.
The Cougars scored the first seven goals on the night, including four in the first period, through Hudson Thornton (2), Terik Parascak, and Zac Funk.
Riley Heidt scored in the second period before Funk completed his hat-trick with one goal in the second and one in the third period. Funk, a Coldstream native finished with a five-point night at the CN Centre, earning him first-star honours on the night.
Ferster’s power play goal at 18:19 of the third period spoiled Ty Young’s shutout bid, giving the Kamloops fans something to cheer about during what has been a difficult season thus far.

The Cougars’ Ty Young – a Vancouver Canucks prospect – stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn the win in net.
Dylan Ernst was pulled after giving up four goals on 11 shots in the first period. Backup Jesse Sanche made 25 saves on 28 shots in 45:26 of relief work for the Blazers Saturday night.
The Blazers will aim to prevent their losing streak from reaching double digits Tuesday night, Oct. 24, when they make their first ever trip to Wenatchee to face the Wild.
They’ll then host the Tri-City Americans for a pair of games Friday and Saturday at Sandman Centre, Oct. 27 and 28.
