The Kamloops Blazers are capitalizing in the Western Hockey League’s sellers market while giving 20 year-old Kamloops native Dylan Sydor a chance to make some noise to end his WHL career.
The Blazers have traded the hometown product to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for Wenatchee’s second round pick in 2025, Prince George’s third round pick in 2024, and 20-year-old forward Blake Swetlikoff.
Sydor played parts of four seasons with the Blazers putting up 85 points (42 goals and 43 assists) in 180 games. He’s in the midst of a career year as he leads the Blazers in points (30) and goals (19) goals this season.
“Kamloops will always be my home, thank you to the players and staff for making the rink such an enjoyable place to be,” Sydor said in a statement. “I’ll never forget it.”
Sydor, the son of former Blazer turned part owner Darryl Sydor, was listed by the Blazers prior to his 17-year-old season in 2020 after spending time with the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials.
“Dylan is a great teammate and person. He was a contributor to three division championships over his time with the Blazers,” Blazers Head Coach and General Manager, Shaun Clouston, said.
“We would like to sincerely thank Dylan for all his hard work and dedication to our hockey club and wish him the best in Lethbridge.”
Swetlikoff comes to the Blazers with 94 points (34 goals and 60 assists) in 195 career games. The Regina native who was traded from the Spokane Chiefs to Regina in January last year, has scored just twice this season while adding seven assists in 37 games.
Dylan Sydor gets a chance to play into the spring. You have to love the return. It’s the same as the Tschgerl deal earlier today with a 20F coming back. Dylan has been a good Blazer and a great teammate. https://t.co/5PmyXq4LD0
