The City of Kamloops is asking people to limit their night time street parking.
It comes as crews have begun the process of removing the large piles of snow which have built up from the plowing.
Streets Manager Glen Farrow says this work – which is being done by contractors – doesn’t come cheap.
“It’s $100,000 quite quickly in an event, especially as we ramp up with additional contract graders and trucks,” said Farrow.
“When we start doing that, the dollars start flowing quite quickly in order to widen up those roads and get them more reasonable for wider parking.”
Farrow says due to the mild start to the winter season the City has been able to keep within their budget.
“At this stage, being not even a month into the year, a lot of the budget has been spent whereas if I look at my 2023 budget, November and December, the snow removal budget did not get spent last year,” Farrow said.
The snow removal is underway downtown, with work set to shift to the Tranquille Corridor on the North Shore once the downtown is finished.
Starting this evening, snow pickup will begin downtown from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am nightly. The route will start at 1st Avenue and Lansdowne Street. Throughout the week, limit nighttime street parking. Once complete, crews will move to the North Shore for further removal. pic.twitter.com/vGkrqTWe0t
