The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has launched a new website for its Emergency Operations Centre where people will be able to get real-time information during emergencies like wildfires and floods.
CAO Scott Hildebrand says the website – which you can access here – will be a place where people can go to get timely information around evacuation orders and alerts during wildfires and floods.
“We all know the situation with fires and emergencies of late,” Hildebrand said.
“We just need a more robust system that is able to draw in and pull information from all the different sources across the province, as well as our information and make sure its all in one place for our residents to go and find at their fingertips.”
Hildebrand says the TNRD began working on the new website as the existing website crashed several times because of high traffic last summer, when the Ross Moore Lake fire edged closed to Kamloops City limits.
He told Radio NL the new website is hoping to prevent those issues from happening again.
“We want to make sure that we have something that will be up as close to 100 per cent of the time as we possibly can to ensure that our residents can find the information from the TNRD that they’re looking for, whether its flooding or fires, evacuations, or just general information on how to keep yourself safe,” Hildebrand said.
“It is still kind of in the build mode but it is accessible publicly right now. That is being built out and it should be complete here very shortly.”
