The Sikh Cultural Society in Kamloops is hosting another Vaisakhi celebration this Saturday, April 27.
The Society is expecting another 1,000 people to gather for what will be the fourth consecutive celebration of Vaisakhi in Kamloops.
“Vaisakhi is a time when our 10th guru began the Khalsa pant, with the Panch Pyare. It happened in April of 1699 and every year its a tradition that a Vaisakhi parade or the Nagar Kirtan take place,” Society spokesperson Pav Gill said.
Saturday’s festivities will begin with Nishan Sahib, a flag-raising ceremony at the gurdwara on Cambridge Crescent at 10 a.m, followed by a Nagar Kirtan parade at noon.
“We will be crossing Tranquille Road onto Nicolani Drive, then onto Lethbridge, 14th Street, onto Halston Avenue, 13th Street, and back onto Lethbridge Avenue where there will be a pause where members who are attending the parade can enjoy the food that’s going to be out there,” Gill said.
People will then return back to the gurdwara via Ollek Road and Tranquille Road.
