While there won’t be any fireworks that evening, the City of Kamloops says there will be still be a reason for people to look up at the night sky on Canada Day this year.
Community Events Coordinator Janvi Desai says the City will be hosting a drone light show for the very first time this July 1.
“In light of of requirements with the current scenario we are doing a drone show to celebrate Canada Day,” Desai said, on NL Newsday.
“Full details for the drone show along with the Canada Day performance, entertainment schedule and all of those details will be released early next week.”
Desai says the drone light show will be visible from a number of different areas in Kamloops where people have been able to take in fireworks displays in previous years.
“All the people who are on Riverside Park will be able to see it as well as from other parts of the city as well like Overlander Park and people on the other side of the river,” Desai said.
The July 1 drone show will be similar to one being put on by Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc and Tourism Kamloops as part of National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations this Friday, June 21.
The Friday show is believed to be the first one of its kind in the area, and one of the first drone light shows outside of the Lower Mainland.
