Flash flooding on the TransCanada Highway west of Kamloops/via Cheyenne Wilder on Facebook
The TransCanada Highway at Savona has reopened to traffic.
It was shut down for a few hours on Sunday evening, after a strong storm system rolled over the Kamloops area, creating flash flooding which shut down the highway between Vavasour Road and Tunkwa Lake Road, according to DriveBC.
Speed reductions through the area are expected, as crews work to fix the damage caused the flooding, which was strong enough to push the concrete barriers along the side of the highway directly across the road, according to posts on social media.
Reports also suggest the rail lines through the area have been washed out, though that has not been confirmed by Radio NL at this point.
DriveBC says its next update will be at 8am on the holiday Monday.
While a Severe Thunderstorm alert has now been lifted, Environment Canada is forecasting the likelihood of more rain through Monday.
The Thompson Nicola Regional District has put out an alert, asking residents impacted by the flooding to reach out as well.
