This crash is the latest in a series of multi-fatality crashes in the province in the past week.
Four people from the same extended family were killed in a crash between two cars and a semi near Becks Road in Keremeos, which shut Highway 3 for eight hours on Wednesday.
Another four people were killed last Friday in a crash in the West Kootenays on Highway 6; a family of three including a baby died in Agassiz on the Lougheed Highway on Tuesday morning; and another three people died when their vehicle went over an embankment in Wilmer, north of Invermere, on Tuesday night.
Two other people were also killed in separate crashes in B.C. over the past few days – a woman who was ejected from a vehicle along Highway 99 in Surrey early Thursday, and a 70-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash along Golden Ears Way in Pitt Meadows Wednesday evening.
