Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson has called a Monday morning news conference to reportedly discuss issues connected to “resignation consideration.”
The details are unclear at this time, but the Mayor sent out similar invitations to Radio NL and other Kamloops media outlets on Thursday evening.
Asked by Radio NL if he was willing to elaborate further on what the news conference will be about, Hamer-Jackson replied “nope lol.”
This is the latest development in the ongoing saga involving Hamer-Jackson at the rest of City Council.
In May, the Mayor was removed as the City’s spokesperson for failing or refusing to execute the will of council as a whole.
In June, his salary was cut by 10 per cent for six months or until he apologizes for his “unwillingness to comply” with a resolution following a code of conduct violation connected to Councillor Katie Neustaeter, whom the Mayor is already suing for libel and defamation.
The mayor is also no longer allowed to attend closed committee meetings because of “continued and repeated privacy breaches” that pose legal risks to the city.
Hamer-Jackson has previously faced a call to resign from fellow councillors in the wake of the Braun report which identified the Mayor as the root cause of the dysfunction at City Hall.
Last month, Hamer-Jackson told Radio NL he had no plans to resign and that he was “going to continue on.”
Hamer-Jackson also confirmed that he is selling the West Victoria Street property that his auto dealership sits on for sale in part to pay his mounting legal bills connected to the lawsuits and other code-of-conduct complaints.
“Probably about, a rough estimate probably about $60,000,” Hamer-Jackson said last month, when asked by Radio NL what his legal bills were.
Since then, the mayor has filed a second defamation lawsuit against local developer Joshua Knaak.
Monday’s news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the scenic lookout on Columbia Street West, a popular backdrop for politicians to make announcements.
