Cooler weather and some rain, along with less available fuel, has allowed the BC Wildfire Service to downgrade the Hullcar Mountain fire burning near Enderby to “being held.”
That blaze, once a Wildfire of Note, is under 8 square kilometers in size.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has now downgraded evacuation orders for that fire, and the roads in the area are fully accessible to the public.
Taylor Wallace with the BC Wildfire Service says while temperatures are down, the risk of new fires is still there.
“We are in a period of thunderstorm activity. It’s probably been sustained each day since about Friday. There is still the potential for hold-over fires to pop up throughout the region as we continue on throughout the week.”
The Wildfire Service is actioning a small cluster of wildfires which have broken out north of Merritt — all of which appear to be lightening-caused.
