A leading developer on the North Shore of Kamloops is suggesting that the revitalization of the Tranquille corridor is now in full-swing.
Joshua Knaak with Arpa Investments points to the redevelopment projects currently taking place at the start of Tranquille, including the former Northbridge Hotel site.
“There are 311 housing units currently under construction between the 100-and the 300-block of Tranquille,” he said. “This will add another 90, taking it to 400 units. We’re working on a 280 units, I think, in that five to six block radius there.”
Knaak’s company was recently picked to redevelop the former Northbridge Hotel site at 377 Tranquille Road, with expectations that construction will be complete by 2026.
Arpa is also working on the nearby Innova on Tranquille development, which is also expected to be ready by early 2026.
Also under construction right now is a six-storey, 80-unit development at 346 Campbell Ave., and a six-storey, 98-unit rental apartment building at 156 Tranquille Road, the site of the former Red Sea Auto and Sales.
Knaak notes most of the projects underway – and those in planning – include a ground-floor commercial component, suggesting this will provide enough space for amenities to service the growing community and the anticipated influx of people.
“A lot of those amenities are already there, like if you think about Northills Mall, it has been pretty underutilized, I guess is the word, since I moved here in 2009,” Knaak said. “Maybe we see ever further revitalization of something like that.”
Speaking on the NL Noon Report, Knaak says the revitalization of the area will also create a lot of “dynamism.”
“What we’re seeing on that is a very substantial increase in people living on that corridor, and the number of people buying ice cream at the ice stores and a number of people going to the drycleaners,” he said.
“Any of the businesses that are there and any of the businesses taha re moving there, I think its going to be an area unlike anywhere else in Kamloops.”
