Safety improvements around Westmount Elementary School in Kamloops will be complete in time for the new school year.
In January, concerns were raised about the safety of the children attending the school, and traffic congestion on Walkem Road near Westsyde Road.
Secretary Treasurer Kelvin Stretch says the measures will be monitored to ensure they are working.
“Longer drop off zone for the school, we had a training program for our certified educational assistance that would assist in being crossing guards. The city, they improved the southbound transit stpo on Westsyde Road, my understanding is they’re diligently working on the replacement of the light, which will become a traffic signal instead of a pedestrian walk.”
Its also expected the recent opening of the secondary access to Batchelor Heights from Grasslands Boulevard should relieve some pressure on the left hand turn from Walkem Road.
