The bombshell report into outlandish spending at the legislature by the Speaker of the House is already being used as a teaching tool in at least one classroom for inspiring lawyers.
Thompson Rivers University lecturer and lawyer Jeffrey Meyers is using the Speaker’s report in a law class about torts or civil wrongs.
“One of them is misfeasance in public office and this means a kind of wrongdoing by somebody in public office, which there could be a civil suit for.”
Meyers says after reading the Plecas Report he thought…
“What better learning tool than have the students read the Plecas report and think about misfeasance in public office in the context of what is going on in terms of the B.C. legislature and this unfolding scandal.”
That said Meyers adds the report in his opinion doesn’t make Speaker Darryl Plecas look very good noting he is participating in questionable events himself.
“He is reporting on all these things that happened while he is participating in events in real time,” Meyers added. “Saying things like I wasn’t sure if this was proper but it did seem odd to me.”
“I was making a note to record it in the future however I wanted to get the culture of the place first and now I realize this was all wrong and now I am reporting it. It is sort of hard to think Mr. Plecas is anything other than somebody who was very gullible or sort of realize that they were wrong after the fact and had some responsibility for all this himself.”
The allegations resulted in the suspension of the Clerk and Sergeant at Arms as well as an RCMP investigation.
