The Chief of Whispering Pines First Nations is following through on his threat to go to court to block the removal of land title records from Kamloops.
A day after threatening to get a cease and desist order Mike LeBourdais says he has gone ahead and retained legal counsel.
“We weren’t getting any communication, or any sign of cooperation, or consultation, or any of that from the Premier’s office or the minister’s office. So we were left without a choice. We agreed to retain counsel and draft up a cease and desist order.”
LeBourdais says other Kamloops area First Nations are in the loop and can join the legal action if they choose.
“What I have done is I have sent to our lawyer the information, the letters, the Union of BC Indian Chiefs letter, and all the correspondence, and all of the attempts trying to engage with the province and he will draft from that a cease and desist order. We will see if that works.”
He says he still has some hope promised consultations from the Premier and his Forests minister over the removal of land title records will materialize.
