FortisBC is reminding people to be aware before doing any digging after two gas lines were damaged in Kamloops yesterday.
Spokesperson Diane Sorace says the incidents this month in Kamloops are a bit of an anomaly – with two gas mains hit yesterday and a third damaged earlier this month.
“Kamloops has had a really really good record this year. Back in April, we celebrated that Kamloops had a good track record of a low number of gas line hits. And we hope that continues in this community, and so we want to bring this awareness out,” Sorace says.
“It’s not uncommon that in the summer time, it’s often that property owners, contractors and landscapers are working on contracts that involve digging. So we do see this happening, and it is important that you call BC 1 Call prior to doing any digging work or excavating.”
Some homes in Juniper Ridge were evacuated for a short time yesterday, after a gas line was hit in the 1900-block of Qu’Appelle Boulevard.
About three hours later, a gas line was hit in Lower Sahali on Arrowstone Drive, and while no evacuations were needed natural gas service was out for about 150 customers until late in the evening. Fortis says crews are still door knocking today to relight natural gas appliances for homes in that area.
Thank you customers in Lower Sahali #Kamloops for your patience as we worked to repair a damaged natural gas line caused by a third party. Natural gas service was restored last night & crews continue visiting homes today to relight appliances @RadioNLNews @KamloopsMatters
