Out of the Cold Kamloops is looking for a new home in the Tournament Capital before operations get underway this November.
The program has operated 28 beds out of St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral for a number of years, but they’re hoping for something new downtown.
Board Chair Kathy Moore says the old Value Village location on Seymour Street would be a great location for them.
“The basement of the cathedral is just showing wear and tear. In some respects, it looks a bit like a rabbit warren,” she said. “There’s places that you know, hallways and cubby holes and what not, and so we would like a more user friendly area that would be better for everybody.”
Moore says a more open space would make it easier for a supervisor to make sure that everybody is safe, adding she’s approaching a couple of other churches asking if they have any space available.
“We are a downtown church, so all the people that we service are basically around this area,” she added. “They have no means of transportation so we’re sort of looking in the downtown area.”
Asked if they’ll continue at St. Paul’s if a new location can’t be found time, Moore said probably not, but she did say she doesn’t want to close that option off entirely.
Moore added she has a lead on a potential venue that could work for them. However, she says she is still looking for other options that could become the new home for Out of the Cold Kamloops.
