Kamloops RCMP say there’s been an increase in speeding complaints from workers in the West Victoria construction zone.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police are reminding drivers that the 30 km/hr construction speed limit is in effect 24 hours a day, whether workers are present or not.
“There are areas that are now being paved and drivers I think are thinking that that’s a place where they can speed up,” she said. “But we want to remind people that the posted speed limit of 30 km/hr is all the way from First Avenue right through to Overlanders Bridge.”
She says there will now be more there will be more speed enforcement through the construction zone.
“Workers are very close to the road and it’s really important that people remember for the safety of the people who are working in that construction zone, they need to slow down and take their time,” Shelkie added. “You know it’s been ongoing for six months now.”
Shelkie says the fines for speeding in a construction zone start at $196 and go up to $398.
