The Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) has approved Richmond-based Kabu Ride to operate in the Tournament Capital.
In their ruling, the PTB says Kabu plans to be on the road immediately in the Lower Mainland, Victoria, and Nanaimo areas, with plans to expand to Kelowna within the first year after launching.
“Kabu anticipates a fleet size of 40 vehicles to service the Central Okanagan (Kelowna) and Thompson-Nicola (Kamloops) areas by the end of 2020 with the hope of increasing the fleet to match demand,” noted the PTB.
The PTB says Kabu has been in the ride-hailing business in the Lower Mainland since 2016 until Sept. 2019. During that period, drivers gave over 1.3 million rides to more than 70,000 customers.
NL News has reached out to Kabu Ride for more information. A spokesperson says they’re ‘very busy today’ but expects to have details soon.
