Fire crews have confirmed that a person died on Saturday after crashing into a building at the Shell gas station in Valleyview.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Acting Platoon Capt. Ken Hart says the driver suffered a medical incident behind the wheel, before hitting a telephone pole and a parked vehicle before crashing into the building.
The driver was believed to have suffered a heart attack before the crash. NL News has reached out to the BC Coroners Service for more information on the victim of that crash.
“Firefighters then started life-saving CPR, pulled the patient out of the vehicle and continued with CPR. And BC Ambulance arrived on scene, but crews could not revive the patient.”
Hart says no one else was hurt in the incident.
He says there was extensive damage to the convenience store building at the Shell, and a white minivan that was parked was also damaged in the crash. No one was in that van when the crash happened.
Meanwhile, employees at the Wendy’s and Tim Hortons next doors were held in those restaurants for a short time, Hart says, because of power lines that were knocked down in front of the buildings.
