A Kamloops paramedic is organizing what he’s hoping will become a daily parade of emergency vehicles driving past Royal Inland Hospital, starting at 7 p.m. tonight, as a salute to health-care workers.
Speaking on NL Newsday, Terry Jessup says the idea is to show workers fighting COVID-19 at the hospital that their hard work is not going unnoticed.
“Kamloops Fire, Kamloops RCMP and BC Ambulance Service will be going from the back of the courthouse, up Columbia Street to Third, up the main road to the hospital, around the hospital, turning around and coming back around to Columbia Street,” he said.
“And its just basically to show solidarity between all of us out there that we are all in this battle together.”
He’s hoping to have several firefighters, police officers and paramedics driving with their lights and sirens on, adding he was inspired to start the procession in Kamloops after seeing similar events in Vancouver and other B.C. communities.
“Everybody that I’ve talked to is on board 100 per cent with this so we’re hoping that it will happen every night at 7 o’clock,” Jessup said. “It’s everybody out there doing their part to make sure that we all get through this. We around the world are a team and we need to get together to fight this and win.”
If you want to show your support, Jessup says the best thing you should do is stay home.
“If you want to get out on your balconies, make a lot of noise that would be great. If you happen to be out and about, that’s okay but just maintain that social distancing of the two metres,” said Jessup.
“We appreciate everything that everybody is doing and it’s an absolute to be able to do this and gather together and show solidarity.”
