UPDATED:
The Home Depot on Hillside Drive is closed because of slope instability near the property.
NL’s Victor Kaisar says staff are blocking the entrance to the property with signs posted outside notifying people of the closure because of structural concerns due to slope movement nearby.
“We have engaged structural engineers and teams to ascertain the current situation. In the meantime, homedepot.ca remains remains (sic) open for your needs,” a hand-written sign outside the Home Depot says.
Kamloops Fire Assistant Chief Steve Robinson tells NL News that KFR has not been asked to respond, but they have been in contact with Home Depot management.
“They have confirmed that they have evacuated the store of customers and staff and they have engineers on site assessing the problem,” Robinson said. “They have [also] confirmed that their sprinkler system and fire alarm systems are still up and running and they have 24-hour-security on site.”
“We are happy with their actions.”
NL News has also reached out to called Home Depot’s head office for more information.
