The Rocky Mountaineer has suspended the rest of its season because of COVID-19, after the season was repeatedly pushed back until August 31st.
“We are incredibly disappointed to share the news of the suspension of our operations through to the end of the 2020 season,” President and CEO Steve Sammut said in a statement. “We remained hopeful we would be able to operate our trains at some point this season.”
“However, due to numerous circumstances, including the uncertainty of when the travel restrictions will be lifted, we have no choice but to postpone our operations until the scheduled start of our 2021 season.”
The luxury train operator relies heavily on international tourists and has an estimated economic spin-off of nearly $50 million in Kamloops in a normal year.
As previously noted, anyone who had a departure cancelled this season will be given a credit for 110 per cent of their amount they paid, valid until 2022. Further, rail prices for the 2021 and 2022 seasons will not increase, according to the company.
