A seniors home resident in Kamloops is concerned after two-break ins to the property in the past two weeks.
Grace Geuvin lives at Cottonwood Manor, on Cottonwood Avenue, and says the charger for her mobility scooter was stolen from the parkade on July 28.
She says in total, five scooter chargers and a battery were all stolen, estimating that’s about $1,500 worth of gear.
And she says each person affected, including herself, is now forced to pay out-of-pocket to replace equipment that is necessary for mobility.
“I can’t go grocery shopping, because I’m on foot and I’m trying to do meager walks in the mornings, because I’m in the habit of driving my scooter to McArthur Park every morning of the week,” Geuvin says.
“My son [in Langley] had ordered me another charger and I just received it yesterday, but I’m afraid to use it because we were broken into this weekend.”
Geuvin says this past weekend someone broke in and cleaned out a tool shed.
“Two weekends in a row. But like I say, I’m afraid to use the darn charger now, this new one, because they’ll rip it off again.”
Geuvin says she has talked to management of the residence, who have had Kamloops RCMP come by to investigate. But she says there are no suspects at this point.
“They have two prospects from their cameras, but they have no proof you see.”
She says these were the first two break-ins in her 15 years of living at the seniors home.
