The ninth season of the Coquihalla’s own reality TV show – Highway Thru Hell – will debut tonight.
Executive Director Neil Thomas tells NL News the show on Discovery Channel – which will premiere at 7 p.m. – has been expanded this year.
“We’re 100-plus episodes in. We’ve got our largest season ever this year, with 18 one-hour episodes. When we started way back in season one we were only nine episodes, so we’ve kind of doubled that,” he said.
“Every year the fans keep asking for more and we keep trying to give them more. We shoot thousands of hours of footage and try to turn that into 18 hours.”
Thomas says the goal of the show is to show off the hard work of tow companies, heavy rescue operators, and highway maintenance crews.
“Our job is just to stay out of the way and capture what we can and show the hard work not only with the tow guys and heavy rescue operators; we also follow highway maintenance and plow truck drivers. All the people who work so hard to keep that highway moving,” he said.
“People really have no idea what a difficult task that is, especially if you’re not from British Columbia. That mountain pass is like no other.”
