The BC Conservatives have named Dennis Giesbrecht as their candidate for the Kamloops-North Thompson riding ahead of the Oct. 24 election.
Giesbrecht ran for city council in 2018 and also helped run a needle buyback program in Kamloops which saw tens of thousands of discarded needles picked up across the city.
He announced his candidacy at the Trans Mountain yard on Mission Flats Road this morning.
“Resource workers like myself are the backbone of the Kamloops North Thompson riding and of our province,” he said. “While we work our way out of this pandemic, resource jobs are desperately needed as are the valuable spin off jobs that they create.”
Giesbrecht grew up in Logan Lake and says he has a background in the trades.
“I’m a guy that came from a small resource town, I worked in the oil and gas industry, and I volunteer in my community because that’s a value I have carried with me all my life,” he added.
“What I think sets me apart from most candidates is that I have worked in the trades. I know what its like to be away from home. I know what its like to work in oil and gas. My father retired from Highland Valley Copper, so I believe that makes me someone the people of Kamloops-North Thompson will be able to relate to.”
Giesbrecht will be running against the incumbent Liberal Peter Milobar, the NDP’s Sadie Hunter, the Green’s Thomas Martin, and independent candidate Brandon Russell.
We are proud to announce Dennis Giesbrecht as Your Candidate for #Kamloops #NorthThompson.
Dennis grew up in nearby Logan Lake, a community whose existence has relied on the copper resources of Highland Valley for five decades.
