UPDATE:
Sicamous RCMP has confirmed two people have died after an accident today, along Highway 97A.
Sgt. Murray McNeil tells NL News the two people killed were in a car heading southbound, which collided with a semi-truck heading north.
Details about the identity of those killed are not clear.
The semi-driver was not injured and co-operated with police at the scene.
The accident happened at 9:40 a.m. south of Swansea Point, about 10 kilometres south of Sicamous.
“It’s a winding road. There’s lots of sharp corners, and advisory signs advising speeds of 60 kilometres per hour. And (Mara) Lake is on your immediate left if you’re heading south. So drivers have to be particularly attentive as they’re navigating down that highway,” MeNeil says.
The cause is still being investigated, and McNeil says substances were not believed to be a factor.
Highway 97A was fully reopened just before 5:30 p.m.
