If you’ve received a hand-written letter from a man named Sean who wants to buy your house, it’s not a scam.
The letter has been circulating in Kamloops in recent days.
NL News contacted the sender whose phone number is written down twice on the note.
Sean Nelson is based in Vernon, and runs a company called We Buy Homes Okanagan.
“I offer to help them out of their situation and work with them. Or sometimes we also work with people or help them get mortgage ready. And we work with sometimes older landlords or whatnot who are just tired of managing their properties. Especially after COVID with people not paying. We’ll vet proper tenants and work out a scenario where someone can rent-to-own the property within two to three years.”
He explained why he sends the letter.
“People usually put their guard up with suit-and-tie-type deal, because you’re a salesman or whatnot. But essentially, even if you look at my website, that’s the professional version and I could advertise all day with that. Sometimes just the nonchalant type way is a better way to connect with people, and work with them on a personal level in a sense.”
In the hand-written letter, Nelson advertises as being an investor and not a realtor, and therefore he says sellers don’t have to pay him commission.
He says an example of the service he offers is his most recent client; he says a couple came to him when they were behind on their mortgage payments, and were getting letters from the bank.
“Nobody wins when the bank gets control of the property. Even the bank doesn’t necessarily win. I came in here, worked with them to see what they needed get out of the house, see what I need to get it for in order to fix it up and make a bit of profit on my end. Now they’ve moved on from the property and didn’t have a huge credit score deal where they’re credit score is messed up for five years because of foreclosure.”
A reporter at NL News received the hand-written letter from Nelson in the mail on Thursday.
Other people in Kamloops have also reported getting the note, and reports say people as far as away as Williams Lake and Prince George have also recently received a letter from Nelson in their mail.
