B.C.’s Attorney General appears to have caught the leader of the opposition telling a lie.

This was Andrew Wilkinson on a recent edition of NL’s Inside Politics when he was asked about the Horgan government’s constitutional challenge over the provincial government’s jurisdiction concerning the Trans-Mountain pipeline.

“David Eby has never actually practiced law. So lets be careful about taking David Eby’s legal opinion on these things.”

The only problem with that statement according to David Eby is it is anything but true.

“I have practiced law for a number of years. I started my career at the federal department of justice. I practiced with a number of non-profit organizations. I have appeared at every level of court in British Columbia. I am very proud to be Attorney General. I am also sufficiently humbled to know that I need the advice of lawyers like Joe Arvay, who are a leading counsel in Canada. We retain them for important work like our reference to advise government on the best approach.”

Eby, a lawyer with Queens Council designation, says an Attorney General also relies on the advice of lawyers working within government.

“If Mr. Wilkinson had the basic facts correct it might be more worth responding too. I can assure British Columbians we take the best legal advice available. We have a department with literally hundreds of lawyers who are in court everyday.”

Something Andrew Wilkinson should know as served, albeit briefly, as Attorney General himself.
