Real Time technology is coming to the Kamloops transit bus system.
B.C. Transit spokesman Jonathon Dyck says the new computer and smartphone based app is being rolled out in seven communities and for Kamloops it will arrive this fall.
Dyck says ‘NextRide’ uses Automatic Vehicle Location to provide customers with real-time data on the location of their bus and its predicted arrival time at a stop.
“What customers can do is see in real time on a map where their bus is currently at. So they can use that to better plan their journey and so they can see if the bus is five minutes away, 10 minutes away, or 15 to 20 minutes away and be able to look it and go okay I have time to stop in and get a coffee or maybe I’ll will start walking to the bus stop now.”
Dyck says onboard the buses, passengers will also now be able to see and hear upcoming stop information as they approach the next stop.
