Perhaps a glimmer of hope locally for the WHL’s hub proposal in Kamloops and Kelowna to get off the ground.
Interior Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Albert de Villiers tells Radio NL he thinks the proposal and the protocol in place is something he “thinks they can make it work.”
However he stressed the decision lies with the province.
“I’ll leave that announcement to them. We have been in discussion, I just spoke with Dr. Bonnie Henry last night. The final call will be from her,” said De Villiers.
He says there’s another side to it.
“There’s some concerns that it might send the message that certain people can do certain things and others cannot do it. If they think it’s a good plan it might be able to proceed. We’re leaving it up to the Province to make the final decision.”
De Villiers was very aware about the approvals in other jurisdictions.
“I think most other provinces have actually allowed the leagues at that level to continue as well. I think we are the last one that’s been holding up.”
The WHL is hoping for BC Division teams to gather in two hubs in Kamloops and Kelowna within Interior Health for a shortened 24 game season starting in late March or early April.
