It appears Logan Lake is far from the only rural community in the Thompson-Nicola region that will have a dedicated COVID-19 vaccine clinic for adults.
Interior Health says people in more than a dozen Kamloops-area communities will be able to get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at special community clinics between March and May.
It means everyone over the age of 18 will be able to get vaccinated in Ashcroft, Avola, Barriere, Blue River, Cache Creek, Celista, Chase, Clearwater, Clinton, Lillooet, Logan Lake, Magna Bay, Scotch Creek, Seymour Arm, Sicamous, Spences Bridge, Sun Peaks, and Vavenby, among others, ahead of the province’s aged-based vaccine rollout in larger communities.
These clinics started as early as March 16 in places like Barriere, and will start as late as May 4 in other places like Sun Peaks, with Interior Health noting it has already completed targeted clinics in several rural and remote communities.
Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Albert de Villiers, says these type of clinics make sense in communities with fewer than 2,500 people.
“In some of the other smaller communities, it doesn’t make sense to do age-based approach because there’s only five people over 80 that would be coming, we’re not going to go in and do just five and come back,” he said.
“We might as well do all the community at the same time, which is logistically easier for us, and we know some of the communities are closely linked as well.”
Residents will have to prove they live in of the communities where these clinics are taking place. If so, they can register for their vaccine appointment by calling 1-877-740-7747 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., PDT, seven days a week.
“If you live in an area that will be served by a larger clinic – you will be required to wait for your age cohort and attend the nearest clinic to you,” Interior Health said, in a statement.
“If you cannot make the dates scheduled for your community you can book a vaccine appointment in one of our larger clinics once your age cohort is eligible.”
