The Sun Peaks Health Centre is notifying the community about a positive COVID-19 case today.
In a statement, Dr. Shane Barclay says this particular case was a person who lived outside of the Interior Health area.
“This was within a family cluster who were visiting Sun Peaks for the spring break,” Barclay said. “They were from within British Columbia…and they have returned home.”
It is not clear when this person tested positive for the virus, but Barclay says all close contacts in Sun Peaks have been notified.
“It is a reminder to be cautious, wear masks, hand wash and keep social distancing,” he added.
All winter, B.C. health officials have been telling people to avoid non-essential travel and to only go skiing at their local ski resorts. While Sun Peaks has reported COVID-19 cases in the past, it has avoided large-scale outbreaks similar to what was seen in places like Whistler or Big White.
Sun Peaks will be one of several Interior Health communities that will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for all adults. It is currently scheduled to run between May 4 and May 7.
“This situation is evolving and [Laura Bantock] is working closely with IHA on plans to bring this to our community,” Barclay added. “Updates and links to the new online booking site will be provided at the earliest opportunity.”
The BC Government is expecting its online booking site to go live on April 6.
