RCMP will be in Sun Peaks this weekend looking for any information into the disappearance of 20-year-old Ryan Shtuka.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says the plan is for both Kamloops Mounties as well as the Southeast District Tactical Troop to be in the community.
“The investigation has been ongoing and part of that investigation is to review things have have been collected and also have a look at any new information that’s coming in. In reviewing some of that information, there’s some areas that they would like to re-examine and some new areas they’d like to search as well.”
Ryan Shtuka was last seen leaving a house party on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks three years ago on February 17, 2018. He was working at the mountain resort before his disappearance.
Several extensive searches by police, search-and-rescue crews, as well as the Shtuka family since that time have all been unsuccessful.
“We still are always collecting information. We don’t know what happened to Ryan and that’s part of what we’re trying to figure out,” Evelyn added. “If anybody does have any information about Ryan’s disappearance, if they could contact the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP, it would be greatly appreciated.”
Both of Ryan’s parents, Heather and Scott, were in Sun Peaks this past February for the three year anniversary of their son’s disappearance.
“After three years, one of the most painful truths is how I’ve learned to manage my expectations. The last time we had an official organized search was May 2018. I thought the snow had melted and with so many volunteers, Ryan surely would be found,” Heather Shtuka said, on facebook.
“For two days, I prayed and hoped and then grieved all over again. I wasn’t sure I would be able to withstand the pain of not knowing and having to leave Sun Peaks without my son. Time allows some things to be endured however fragile your heart is.”
“Today we make our way back to wait. To hope. To pray. And hopefully endure again.”
