Kamloops RCMP have released a picture of a person of interest in a sexual assault investigation that was reported last week.

Just after midnight on July 18, RCMP say a woman who was getting into her vehicle at Fifth Avenue and Victoria Street in downtown Kamloops was sexually assaulted and had her cell phone stolen.

Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police have reviewed surveillance footage in the area and are releasing a picture of a person of interest to help further the investigation.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, with a raspy voice. He is believed to be between five-foot-five and five-foot-nine and was wearing dark clothes at the time with orange or red stripes down his arms.

People who recognize the man pictured or have any information about the investigation and have not yet spoken with police, are asked to reach out to Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-24462.
