Residents of Cherry Creek were able to return home Tuesday night, two days after being evacuated by the Tremont Creek wildfire.
The order was downgraded to an alert for all 166 properties that were put on order on Sunday.
The blaze had grown in the direction of Cherry Creek over the weekend as a result of gusting winds and hot and dry weather, but fortunately with the shift in weather it has not gotten that far. The BC Wildfire Service says it has also been working to build a fireguard south of Cherry Creek.
As of Wednesday morning, evacuation orders near the Tremont Creek fire remain in place for Logan Lake, Tunkwa Lake, Paska Lake and Dominic Lake.
Yesterday, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District downgraded evacuation orders at parts of three other fires as well. Forty-five properties were taken off order near Monte Lake and Paxton Valley, close to the White Rock Lake fire, 13 properties were taken off of order near the Sparks Lake fire east of Loon Lake, and three properties were taken off of order near the Young Lake fire, on Bonaparte-Young Lake Forest Service Road.
The City of Kamloops also lifted an evacuation alert yesterday for 734 properties in Pineview Valley and Iron Mask, as the city says there’s no imminent wildfire risk for the coming days.
