Kamloops RCMP are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found along the shoreline near the entrance to the Mission Flats landfill on Friday afternoon.
In a statement, Cpl. Dave Marshall with the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit said firefighters came across the body after responding to a suspicious fire in the area.
The Serious Crime Unit is investigating and asking people with information to contact police.
At this time, the body has not been identified, police say.
“Early tips from the public are often critical to solving cases of this nature,” Marshall said. “We are requesting anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area along Mission Flats Road and the Thompson River shoreline to come forward to police.”
“We are also looking to speak with anyone who was driving in the area and anyone that was out walking on either side of the river.”
Police are also looking for anyone with video surveillance, cell phone or dash cam video that may have captured something suspicious in the Mission Flats area to come forward.
